The Poosky is a hybrid dog whose purebred parents are the Siberian Husky and the Poodle. These dogs are a fairly new mixed breed, and they may also be called the Siberpoo, the Huskydoodle or the Huskypoo. They look like no other dog, and can even look a little odd. They are somewhat common in number, and puppies for adoption tend to be mid-priced.

Poosky Breed Details

These are mixed breed dogs, so there is no formal classification for these dogs. Their parents are well-known for their abilities, however, so you can consider the Poosky basically as a working dog. They are not good for first time dog owners as they are a lot to handle. For the right person or family, they are great companions.

Poosky Breed Description

Nearly all hybrid dogs tend to have various combinations of their parent breeds. Even in a single litter, each puppy may be very different from all the others. The Poosky, however, seems to turn out somewhat consistently in that they look like a Husky with a Poodle coat. They are unique looking dogs, no matter how they turn out. They are also demanding, stubborn and independent as well as loyal, loving and close to family members.

These dogs combine the vast intelligence of both parent breeds. They must be trained and socialized as soon as they can walk. Left alone, Pooskys won't so much acquire separation anxiety as set out to test and explore everything. They need a job or they will find other methods of mental stimulation which usually involves destroying things.

Crate-training is essential. They can be extremely stubborn at first and may resist until they get their way with a lesser-willed person. It's one way they play, dominate and ultimately test the hierarchy of their home.

These dogs are practically untiring. All day, every day, exercise and play — whether it's running, jogging or biking, or letting him into a very well-secured yard, you cannot leave these dogs alone and inside. If you can tire them out by night, they will love you even as they get ready for the next day's activities. However you cut it, the Poosky needs a great amount of daily exercise.

Poosky Dog Health

Most Pooskys come from Huskies being bred with a Standard Poodle. Unfortunately, this Poodle variation (of which there are three and this is the oldest and largest) is said by the Poodle Club of America to be the most prone to a great many ailments. Hybrid vigor will play its part in helping to keep many problems at bay, but you should always get all the required health tests and vet checks for your adopted puppy or dog.

Here are some of the health concerns that can develop in a Poosky:

  • Bloat
  • Epilepsy
  • Hip dysplasia

  • Skin problems
  • Hypothyroidism
  • Patellar Luxation
  • Addisons disease
  • Leg/joint problems
  • Cushings Syndrome
  • Legg-Perthes disease
