Pointer Pudelpointer Grooming

The Pointer-Pudelpointer mix, as the offspring of a Pointer (with a short, smooth coat) and a Pudelpointer (a medium-length, stiff, double-layered one) has pretty moderate grooming needs. The coats can be more like that of either parent breed, but are usually somewhere in between: short to medium in length, fairly crisp, and double-layered (though not always).

Below you'll find ore details on maintaining these hybrids' coats, including info about brushing and bathing.

In addition to its coat, your P-P mix will need maintenance in other areas. Brush the dog's teeth 2-3 times per week; clean the ears monthly; and trim the dog's nails every 2-3 months.

Pointer Pudelpointer Coat Care

Pointer-Pudelpointer grooming is generally moderate--and most of the work will involve maintaining these hybrids' coats. P-P mixes usually shed a fair amount; the coats can be single- or double-layered, and if double they'll shed more heavily during the spring and fall shedding seasons. Whatever the case, consistent brushing will be necessary to help with dead hair collection.

Brush your P-P mix twice a week with a bristle or pin brush, moving in the direction of hair growth. For double coats, daily brushing is best during shedding season.

Baths are generally needed every 2-3 months. When bathing a Pointer-Pudelpointer, be sure to use shampoo made for dogs, as the human kind has a different pH and can irritate the dog's skin.

And no Pointer-Pudelpointer haircuts are required. If the dog has a longer coat, it is possible to clip the coat shorter to make it easier to care for--but doing so is not really recommended.

Though owners can learn to perform all aspects of Pudelpointer-Pointer grooming themselves, it's good to take the dog to a professional groomer at least once. The groomer can give the dog a nice makeover, and provide tips on how to groom a Pointer-Pudelpointer mix at home.
