Miniboz Dog Breed

Other names:
Mini Bos

Pronunciation: [ Min·ee·bhaz ]

The Miniboz is a hybrid dog produced from mating a Miniature Schnauzer with a Boston Terrier. These little mixed-breed dogs were probably first seen during the 1990s when designer dogs were all the rage. There are not too many breeders for them, and they tend to be moderately priced for adoption.

Miniboz Breed Details

The Miniboz is a superb companion and watchdog. They are great for first-time dog owners who have small homes. They come from Working Dog and Terrier stock, so they will be very active even though they tend to be far too small to do what their purebred parents do.

Miniboz Breed Description

This little hybrid dog is loving, somewhat overly protective and very energetic. They are at their best as watchdogs, but they shouldn't be allowed to be guard dogs because they are so small and don't seem to understand that. Minibozs are intelligent, and they will want to please you. Obedience training should be easy, and they'll also like agility play and learning lots of tricks.

Your Miniboz will want to be the center of attention all the time. They play well with kids and other dogs. If their Terrier inheritance is strong, however, they may have a high prey drive and chase non-canine animals. It's best to socialize them if you have cats or other furry companions. They may be aloof to strangers but will warm up to friends whom they see you are comfortable with.

These dogs are very energetic, but they have only moderate exercise requirements. They tend to get a fair amount of what they need by exploring their home, but they still need to get daily walks and a few weekly visits to the dog park.

Miniboz Health

The Miniboz comes from two purebred dogs that have very different health profiles. The Boston Terrier is a brachycephalic breed, and the severely shortened snout — called a "pug nose" — means this dog is prone to a lot of respiratory problems. Hot and cold weather can quickly cause big problems. There can also be eye ailments if the pug nose is extremely flat. If your Miniboz inherits this pug nose feature, you need to be extra careful against heat stroke, shivers, and eye concerns.

There are a number of other issues that may affect your Miniboz, too, and these are some of them:

  • Deafness
  • Allergies
  • Entropion
  • Cherry eye
  • Brain tumors
  • Urinary stones
  • Heart Problems
  • Von Willebrands
  • Reverse Sneezing
  • Patellar Luxation
  • Myotonia Congenita
  • Congenital Megaesophagus
  • Progressive Retinal Atrophy (PRA)

The Miniboz has an average life span of 12 to 15 years.
