German Shorthaired Kelpie Breed Description

A German Shorthaired Kelpie is likely to take after the parent breeds which means they will be very warmhearted dogs who can be entertaining and love attention. Give your spirited German Shorthaired Kelpie a lot of toys and activities to occupy his mind, or he will find his own entertainment. He is outgoing, eager to please, and very friendly. They are people oriented, intelligent, playful, and loyal, and although they are capable of being quite dignified when the occasion calls for it, they are just as likely to play the clown at home.

These dogs are often described as spirited and alert, along with lighthearted energy that needs to be expended daily. They have a high energy level and need day-to-day exercising. Members of this breed do very well with children as they are gentle, tolerant and are not high energy or aggressive. They usually get along well with other animals and are not territorial. You won't usually find a German Shorthaired Kelpie that is nervous or anxious, so they have no need to bark at every little thing, something your neighbors will appreciate! Intelligent and well mannered, the German Shorthaired Kelpie learns quickly, but he has a mind of his own.
