Basset Weimaraner Breed Description

A Basset Weimaraner that is well socialized at an early age will be good with children and other dogs. Even though the Basset Weimaraner is not very playful, it is patient, gentle, and easy-going with children. A Basset Weimaraner bonds strongly to family members and can become anxious and destructive if ignored. When these two parent breeds are combined, we end up with a large, spunky, companion dog that is great around kids and is an excellent companion for the active adult.

If properly socialized, the Basset Weimaraner is pleasant and affectionate towards all ages and towards other animals, provided it can resist their powerful urge to chase anything that runs. Their compact package belies a great deal of energy, so expect to be entertained with some goofy antics if your Basset Weimaraner doesn't get a walk or some playtime. The Basset Weimaraner is typically social and not aggressive. There a risk of jealous behavior from the Weimaraner genetics, and the Basset Weimaraner can have a variable temperament, and while some are excellent with children, others can be snappy and defensive. He dislikes being left home alone and will find a way to let you know. The Basset Weimaraner is a companion dog that is not quite recommended for first time dog owners unless the owner has a lot of patience.
