Afghan Spaniel Dog Breed

The Affen Spaniel is a hybrid dog produced by cross-breeding the Affenpinscher and Cocker Spaniel. Her parent breeds bring to the table herding and companion characteristics, and as such, she will be a great family pet that is comfortable with other pets and children. She can also be a wonderful watchdog but should be trained very early so she can distinguish threats from mere strangers as well as to not be too aloof once strangers are properly introduced. She will be a medium-maintenance dog and can easily adapt to small apartments as well as large estates – although she may be a digger and should have a well-fenced yard if allowed outside.

Afghan Spaniel Breed Description

Affen Spaniels are medium-sized dogs that, when mature, are usually 10 to 15 inches in height and weigh from 15 to 25 pounds.

Your Affen Spaniel will almost assuredly be great with kids, family members and other pets. He may be wary of strangers but with early and proper training will understand to be welcoming once introduced. Nevertheless, he will be easily trainable due to his Spaniel inheritance.

The Affen Spaniel will be a medium-maintenance dog, to state the least. He will most likely have medium-length hair but more often than not will bear a long coat; in either case, he will need a few weekly brushings although daily brushings tend to be best. He should only be bathed when necessary. As his ears will almost certainly be long and floppy, regular inspections of them (for bad odors) along with weekly cleanings (that should be done gently, of course) is needed. Be sure to keep his eyes free of crust and to walk him daily as well as take him to the dog park a few times weekly.

Affen Spaniels do not have many known general ailments, but hip dysplasia is a problem that occurs regularly. Kept healthy, happy and active, he should have a life expectancy of 10 to 15 years.
