Peka A West Breed Description

Older kids who can be taught how to appropriately and gently handle a pet will be a perfect match for this breed. The Peka-A-West is better with older children, not small toddlers. Peka-A-Wests do make good watchdogs because they are very alert but their friendly, non-aggressive natures mean they will not do much more than bark at strangers. Since both of the parent breeds are loving, obedient dogs, the Peka-A-West makes an excellent family pet for anyone.

They are good with children, but are not so good with cats and other dogs unless they have been socialized thoroughly. The Pekingese Westie has a moderate amount of energy and needs daily exercise. These dogs can also be unusually bossy until they get what they want. Your Peka-A-West should get along nicely with other pets, but she may have a territorial aspect from her Pekingese side. This breed prefers being with their families as indoor dogs rather than being outside. Early training and socialization is important.
