Akita Newfoundland Breed Description

Though most Akita Newfoundland dogs are fine with other family pets, including the family cat, quite a few Akita Newfoundland are dominant or aggressive toward other dogs of the same sex, and some are cat chasers. It also has a tendency to be cautious with newcomers and aggressive towards other dogs. They are however not recommended for first time dog owners but rather someone with experience.
