Where to Get A Cockapoo

The Cockapoo is perhaps the perfect dog for any size family, be it empty-nesters who prefer lots of quiet time, huge families with lots of kids and multiple generations visiting constantly, or just about any other situation. Whether that family is getting their first dog or they have already had several dogs, the Cockapoo will be fine. First-timers will be especially thrilled when they understand how easy Cockapoos are to train as well as how early this hybrid learns commands.

Because they are so popular and have been around for a relatively long time (they are considered the first-ever "designer dog"), however, finding a Cockapoo is both easy and somewhat hard. Unfortunately, Cockapoo puppies for sale are easy to find in puppy mills, among unscrupulous breeders and pet stores that may not know nor care how their "Cockapoos" were bred, if they are healthy or much else except money. What may be hard is making sure you have a true Cockapoo whose health and history are known to the breeders and passed on to you. There are at least three Cockapoo clubs in the U.S. (Cockapoo Club of America and the North American Cockapoo Registry are two of them) and even one in the UK (Cockapoo Owners Club UK) that will help you find a reputable breeder or rescue group that have Cockapoos for sale.

Cockapoo Price

There are a plethora of factors that can affect Cockapoo prices, but perhaps the biggest one is the lowest price and why it may be low. Just because the pup may look like a Cockapoo doesn't mean she is, and worse is that that low puppy price may mean massive vet bills, and the $200 for that pup could easily mean unnecessary thousands to maintain her as well as having given that $200 to a back-yard breeder or puppy mill that will use it to breed more unhealthy puppies. Reputable breeders will charge much higher prices (usually $750 to $1,250 for your Cockapoo) but will also be able to provide detailed health, histories and information about the parents and breed lines.

  • High supply and high demand, but the supply is too often diluted by unhealthy, non-properly bred Cockapoos
  • Sable/red is said to be rare
  • "Teacup" Cockapoos highly desired
  • Health is guaranteed by reputable breeders
  • Both parents registered with AKC or other known kennel club, or if Cockapoo is F1b, F2, etc., then papers for lineage
  • F1 Cockapoo with a dog-show-winning purebred parent can cost $1,700 and up
  • A winning bloodline

Finding A Free Cockapoo

Unlike many hybrids, finding free Cockapoo puppies from a rescue is relatively easy — and even easier on Internet classified ad boards such as Craigslist and Backpage. Unfortunately, free is free only from the start, and if you adopt a Cockapoo from a shelter or from someone on Craigslist, etc., the risk of the dog not being a Cockapoo as well as being very costly when it comes to overly frequent vet visits to deal with health problems is all too likely. There is also the possibility that your rescue Cockapoo may have been abused or was abandoned, and those potential issues must be attended or at least expected. Still, there are reputable rescues that may have a Cockapoo seeking a new home.

How to Choose A Cockapoo

Cockapoos come from two parent breeds that get along very well in a vast world of possibilities, from war and peace, to small families and massive dynasties, to tiny apartments and mega-acre estates. They are extremely amicable dogs that may be adopted as puppies or any time later in their lives. They love people, are very easy to train and get along with all ages in most any living situation.
