Chestnut colored dogs have a coat that is between red and light brown. It is not uncommon for the chestnut coloring on some dog's coats to appear light brown or red depending on the light source. Some dog breeds, such as the havanese and the cocker spaniel have beautiful solid colored chestnut coats, but this color is most common in dual and tri-colored dogs.
Keep in mind a puppy's coat color can change before adulthood, so a chestnut puppy may not have the same coloring as an adult.
