Where to Get A Utonagan

The Utonagan may look wolfish but is actually a stunning mixture of Husky, Malamute and German Shepherd. They are known for having energetic, loyal, companionable personalities. Although quite trainable they are large, high energy dogs that do best with experienced owners that have plenty of time and space to exercise them. This breed is a great match for active single owners or families with children.

Finding Utonagan puppies for sale in the United States may be difficult. The similar looking Tamaskan breed seems to be more common and popular within the U.S. while it is easier to find a Utonagan breeder in Britain. Be prepared to pay hefty shipping fees (~$450) if you cannot find a breeder locally. Of course, it will be slightly easier to find an adult Utonagan for sale and there are many adoption/rescue agencies for all 3 parent breeds; contact groups for either the Husky, Malamute or German Shepherd and ask them about their adoptable mixes!

Utonagan Price

Utonagan dogs are, on average, $1300-$1500 but be prepared to add an additional $250-$450 for shipping if you cannot find a local breeder. In addition to transport and the scarcity of breeders, the following factors will affect Utonagan price:

  • Bloodline- both parents being purebred, Kennel Club certified individuals will increase cost. Show dog, especially champion, bloodlines will certainly do so too!
  • Health- many breeders have chosen to offer personal health guarantees (the puppy can be returned within a certain time if in poor health). Also, genetic testing and certifications such as eye, elbow and hip can give you some idea how healthy your puppy is but also add largely to the cost.
  • Extras- initial vet visits, micro-chipping, special training, or anything "extra" your pup comes with will likely increase cost.
  • Uniqueness- extra small or large sizes, as well as rare coat and eye colors allow the breeders to demand more for those individual puppies.
